Tell me about it,please! Was it at a show? Or a mutual love for FZ that brought you together? We'd love to hear your story.

Most forumers know all about it, Kiirk.
I met SabrinaIII on this forum a couple of years ago, and this past March we got married.
Imagine...a wife who sings along with Zappa, instead of complaining. 8)

So on to the next concert where I saw FZ - San Carlos,CA. Circle Star Theater, a theater in the round! Very professional! Now there were a couple of concerts that came in between, but this (at -16)- This is were FZ grabbed me by the short hairs and said,"this isn't Improve, this is Warner Bro's approved shit" I don't think he liked doing this show, looking back, but I was there with folks in the biz and they were all gee wiz,how professional! I didn't know he could play!? They being 10ys older & making a living playing music,in the SF Bay Area `74.
So we get there, and my friend comes back from will-call.And JESUS TITS!! We got 2nd row!!! We were 16 and a Phreaking Musical Genius was going to be that close to us!!!!We weren't worthy along time ago!!! I can't explain it. We were nervous!?
The cheap seats filled up,the inner-ring was full! The middle ring was, well empty, FZ noticed that! Then when you least expect it,theres' this lanky normal to me ,strange to you, hobo, kinda' lookin man walks, nay, meanders to the stage and sits at the piano and says something in grrrbbblll Some of the old pros scoffed, half way into the 1st solo song, anyone could hear talent and no one was supped to open for FZ & The Mothers-Someone did,
IT WAS TOM WAITS!!!
More later- ?

TOM WAITS opened for FZ in march 74 in Portland Or and was booed without mercy right off the stage and into the pit... FZ came out and looked pissed...played the whole show without saying a word to the crowd...great show and later that night a FM station played the Apostrophe album

Official Release #18
Originally Released: March 1974
Produced, Arranged & Struggled with: FZ
that I had not yet heard. What a night for my first FZ show!

I heard that Tom Waits was booed to.But at a theater in the round, with the sound so clear,I don't think FZ or Tom Waits cared what we thought. There was no pit to fall in either.By that time FZ was tired of not being takin' seriously, and if you don't like his opening act tuff! That was sort of how it felt. Can,t say I blame him either.

When Prince first came out he opened for the Rolling Stones at the LA coliseum and got booed off the stage and it was scary. I thought there was going to be a riot and I believe this was after the Who thing, the only time I was scared at a concert. That many people moving like a heard of Bison, there is nothing you can do but stay on your feet, if you fell down you were done. We left early, it was a drunken mess, note any fun.

So how did you get into FZs music?Been to any crushing concerts? 8)
My older brother introduced me to fz in 1981 and i have seen the nov 8 1984 show in Québec city and ZpZ 3 times. I think i am the bigger fan in my town. Today i heard Zappa music in a little store on a corner street. I said to the guy who worked there oh Zappa music he said yes i love Zappa. I told him i had all the cds so he said how many he has now 60? i said no around 88 he said wow and my bus arrived.

In 1984 I saw The Gerry Garcia band open for Frank in Chicago..What sticks in my mind was that you could tell who was there for Frank (fans) And it was obvious, Who was there for the Dead (fans) The Ty/dye shirts was the first clue and the long hippie dresses the girls wore..Besides not a lot of women were there for Frank. I never was a big fan of the Dead..And no disrespect to those that are but.. They sucked! I could not wait for Garcia to get off the stage. To me he was as wasted as much as the fans were. people spinning..waving their hands in the air..heads tipped back.(and that was in just in the line to get in!) Endless shitty guitar solos. The only thing good was the free high I got from all the pot smoke that was dominating the Oxygen that night! When Frank got on..A lot of the Dead fans started to leave the building..I thought that was disrespectful but I didn't give a fuck..I actually was happy about that. Frank and the band were Awesome..At one point I think he even made a dig at the Garcia band I think it was about a song called Deal? They played..Ride My Face To Chicago and The Illinois Enema Bandit..The crowd went wild. I know a lot of fans will agree with me on this..Ray White is the Best...No one can ever replace that voice! I was glad to see him again with ZPZ and I will truly miss him. I remember Bobby's high voice on the song..He's so Gay! I laughed my ass off!..They played at least twenty songs that night (I have the set list somewhere) It was a very odd night with the combo of fans but it was another night I'll never forget!
