sometimes you become so surprised by an unthought-of event, in our case a captivating space-rock concert, i mean, one'd be well far-gone if for instant Ozric Tentacles could catch anything nimble like Hawkwind never accomplished. So Frank in a jolly mood in the spur of the moment dug up a joke, probably guessing that no proper person would take a none-working drug through their noses. Howe stupid can they become, ya well...

And if there was a piece of crap (have a lazy look alout) or any green on for the experiment, any cosmopolitan would try launching a spliff-off, so laid-back, at least at the start, a-hEMp.... Soms it can take 3/4 of an hour of nervous shower so to say rollinga such a doobie-whoopperla up for the others to wait on ya!-) ...our last one with fingernail of stoeuff catapulted complete the nightshift crew out of the sun-system a bit. When masterly done a puff may even burn for 36oo/2 seccinds. A well-aware spaecialist would tell you that one mm, or just a thimble-full is the way of the magi. ...decaf along wizz, hmmm, feeling strange but hooh, panic attack the next time on the sides from the surroundings and music's almost taking over. Let the soundses be your guide, do you feel dizzy when you're stoned... trust me, knowing spirits will get all the support from the surroundings, weird phings starting to happen, a zeppelin with onboard sound or not. ....issy tap water save and ready.... ney-neh? a new-start from Win xPeriment, will you wager or wot? there's nothing we can do-a-hooh...

a-hum, wa'er. Has anyone ever probed that along a noisy smoke-device, ney, not a steam-boat, yer neptoonions-ka-rovvers. ...skip all that, it's now readdiouw time. Kapm? we're floatn, a shower of space-junk on the sensors....

One more time,
Speaking of crap..I was told by a member of the 60's SF acid rock band KAK,that FZ gave him $1,200 after their gig."It's for the boys' they where tight" he says... "is this enough for an ounce of coke?"
I want to know if he will back up that story now.I told him in the 80's & 90's and now this decade, that don't sound like FZ at all.He say's it's true. What are you gonna do? Anyone else heard of KAK? Or FZ throwing around money on dope for his band?

One more time for the world...I meet a guy in a bar once, I think he was a professional bull shitter, he was good very believable on most of his crap. Then he started in on FZ..and said (this is a quote) " I used to go over his house in the hills all the time, I know his kids Dweezil, Moon, Ahmet, and little Diva...we used to put acid in our eye lids together"...I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night. Sometimes ya got to let these things go... :|

Got to see Frank three times. 1st time was what we now call the "Roxy" band. 2nd time the band featured Roy Estrada much to my personal surprise (this was way long before the nose-dive he took that landed him in prison...the idiot). 3rd time was a version featuring Bozzio, and Belew to name a few. Got to very briefly shake Franks hand after the third gig. He had finally come out of the stage door (yep, we waited a long time) to get in his limo and saw a shit load of us standing around waiting. He looked around and instead of getting in the car he went around shaking hands. One of my buddies was particularly impressed that Frank got in the front seat of the limo afterwards instead of climbing in the back.

All of those gigs were great, tight, and a lot of fun but happy as I am to have heard such musicanship I have always regretted never being a witness to the original Mothers. Discovered the original Mothers of Invention about a year after they were broke up. They had a certain something that I always wished I could have witnessed in person but...oh well.

Still...

Besides seeing Estrada playing with Frank I have subsequently met Don Preston...did not get to talk much though...met Bunk Gardner and had a quite long enjoyable talk with him one-on-one at a thing called the Zappening in Illinois many years back. In addition I have been fortunate enough to also have met Jimmy Carl Black three different times and I was able to talk a good bit with him each time. He never acted put out and was always quite generous with his time.

FZ/Mothers Early Recollections

I know this is long but I encourage all FZ/Mothers Fans to read this, thank you and enjoy!

As I have mentioned before, I began listening to FZ after hearing Overnight Sensation at 14. I had listened to Mothermania at 12, but only as a curiosity since it was a banned record in most households (it would have been like getting caught with drugs back then). But I had previous knowledge of the FZ and the Mothers through my older cousins who lived and LA and saw them perform in the earliest days. I remember them being at our house in either the late 60’s or 1970 for Thanksgiving, talking about the band very enthusiastically, I was awestruck by their hippie clothes and hair, they had the Hollywood/LA seen at its prime.

I talk to my cousin via E-mail from time to time and even though she has been out of the music seen for over 30 years and a born again Christian for many years, she is still pretty hip. I mentioned to her in a correspondence that I was going to see Frank Zappa’s son in ZPZ and she said that that was a name she had not heard for long time, I briefly explained the project to her.

Well I got an idea for the forum since their probably are not that many people around who had seen those early Mothers years and asked her for her recollections, her are our correspondences’.

Request message
******* - I have a little favor to ask if it not too much, as you know I am a big fan of Frank Zappas and his son Dweezil who currently is touring with his band Zappa Plays Zappa that perform his father’s compositions. I also regularly participate in a forum dedicated to FZ musical legacy in which the early days of the Mothers is recalled. The request would be for your memories of the early years that I know you and your brother were following and fans too. I know this might conflict with your current outlook, but I was hoping that you would be comfortable with recalling those times and writing it down. I hope you and yours are doing well, thank you for hearing me out, if you would ever want to talk give me a call.

Response message
I don't mind at all, they're just memories. I wish I still had their albums, if I did I give them to you. One was called "Freak Out" I think. I had a couple and don't know what I did with them. Unusual songs to say the least. Anyway, I'll take the memory stroll and get back to you.

Response follow-up
I remember Freakout but I can't for the life of me remember the second album I got.

Anyway, the first time I saw them was at a hole in the wall kinda place over by Melrose, I think. So long ago now it's hard to remember. No seating and the lighting was pretty low. When the band first appeared they didn't come out on stage...........some of them came out of nowhere but out on the floor in an almost creepy way. Like coming from behind a curtain or through a door but in a slithery, sneaky way. Not scary though, just bizarre. I remember the guy I was dating at the time really liked them and that's why we were there, he said they came crawling out of the cracks in the wall. It did actually feel like that in a way.

It was apparent right away that they were of a menagerie variety as opposed to a main stream group. They wanted it that way and they liked it that way. Who else would write a song about urine left in a jar but them. I think they called it green numies or something like that. crédit Wasn't that on the Freakout album?

I remember seeing Frank Zappa on the Johnny Carson show once. He came out barefoot and sat cross legged in the guest chair. Not your typical guest, that's for sure. He seemed uncomfortable to me and I think at some point he actually got up and just walked away. Never came back.

I'll write again as the memories come.

Follow-up
I will contact her brother and post in this thread whatever I receive from them.

Thank you very much :)
