I'm tipping France this time - which probably means they'll be out in the first round.

How did you know? Hope you placed a bet and are rich now

US breaks scoring record in emphatic Women's World Cup display

Image

Reims, France (CNN) Sport is more often than not a brutal place for the underdog. There should always be hope, of course, but it is usually the Goliaths who win.

Just ask Thailand, whose players will be chasing red-shirted American behemoths in their nightmares for a number of nights to come.

The 13-0 scoreline was a true reflection of the match. It was a thumping. It was a night that records tumbled as Thailand suffered the heaviest defeat in World Cup history.

NZ didn't do so well.....

FIFA Women's World Cup 2019: Football Ferns concede late in loss to Netherlands

The Football Ferns were minutes away from securing a valuable point in their opening match at the Fifa Women's World Cup in France, but the Netherlands struck late to claim the spoils and break Kiwi hearts.

Jill Roord proved the hero for the Dutch, the reigning European champions, getting to a looping ball in front of goal ahead of Ferns defender Abby Erceg and keeper Erin Nayler and nodding it over the line in the second minute of stoppage time to give her side a 1-0 win.

US comfortably beats Sweden and sets another Women's World Cup record

Image

(CNN) The search for a team to challenge the US continues.

In their most difficult test thus far, the defending champions came through unscathed, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory against Sweden to make it three wins from three in France with no goals conceded.

For athleticism, for speed, for attacking prowess the US are without equal at this Women's World Cup. Indeed, no team has ever scored more in the group stages than the 18 goals netted by the US.

it was an exciting and good game.
with only minutes left, one of sweden's defenders saved a shot from england, by heading the ball away from the goal line. amazing.
