Sure, Christmas might mean rampant commercialism, but you get to see all your friends and family. I mean, my best friend is coming in. I haven't seen him in months. Betsey will try to come in too, and every time I see her is a special occasion. Ya gotta focus on the love and not the stuff. That's all it's about, really.

Having to be happy every year at a fixed date really bugs me. I feel the same for my own birthday. I don't like being told how to feel.

Yeah, I agree, Xmas can be pretty freaking horrific...too commercialized, blahblahblah. But i still get a little bit o' butterflies on Christmas Eve. I'm usually last to go to bed, so I like to watch the lights on the tree flicker for awhile, just enjoying the quiet before the storm. There is a feeling of magic, if you let it in. Besides, i love the smell of a REAL pine tree :-* :)

I work for a website that sells electronics. They always have a huge Boxing Day Sale that begins on Christmas day.

The irony is that some people will have to leave their homes and work on Christmas Day to make a living, so the rich can stay home and shop on-line.

Who the fuck shops on-line on Christmas Day? Haven't you consumed enough this month.

I used to climb the Christmas tree every year, and knock it over, (what 6 year old can resist a tree like that, damn!). C-R-A-S-H! "What's going on in there chuck"..."Nothin' Ma", (lol, putting off the inevitable, like a 6 year old's got the resources to get that tree back up before she finds it). But the thing kids know about christmas (besides presents), is that something happens to the elders. You can get away with stuff like running full bore in the house, staying up late, eating all kinds of candy cane and ribbon candy at any time, even crash the tree year on year...and the elders just chill! I learned why about the time of the song below, I stopped buying boxes of cards and keeping the advanced calculations of everyone's gifts updated, (lol, and the checkbook too...oh no VISA!). Now I joined the elders, I didn't loose any family or friends (and even relieved some friends of having to send ME cards). I just get something for my two daughters (little tiny matching emerald necklass's this year), and for my girlfriend. But the rest of it? Fuck it(: Sure it'll be randomonium at the house again when they're all here (the payoff is that unique holliday evening quiet that returns when they go!). But if I spill my gravy on the carpet, fuck it..I just give everyone a big smile, hell, it looks like Italy, I'm PROUD of that
I find the fuck it all attitude is what the elders knew...they knew how to do Christmas(:

Happy Hollidays Zappa freaks(:

[link=http://www.znakomi.com/zappaforum/christmasELP.mp3]Emerson Lake and Palmer on Christmas[/link]
I've got X-Mas shopping down to a science. I go to those places in the mall where they put pictures on mousepads and mugs, etc. It's a can't miss. It's gotten a little more expensive but you know they're going to like it because it's a picture of their kids or them or whatever. And when that gets boring there's always the good old gift certificate. I used to really stress over this stuff until I found this solution. 8)

I had to shovel 71cm of snow Tuesday (that's about 28 inches), and I had to shovel today, Thursday, about 25cm (10 inches). And it's still snowing !

And now I have a backache. I have a music practice late this afternoon, so I have to put my amp, my guitar and all the rest (pedals, music sheets holder, a long powerbar, etc...) in my mini-van. I'm waiting for the guy responsible to open my driveway cause I have about 3 feet of heavy wet snow and since I'm paying for that service, I won't shovel for sure. I already had my share.

More than that, the show is tomorrow and only half of it had been practiced. We have the second set which involve the brass section. Now, where I live (Montérégie), there's an electric power failure, so half of us don't have electricity. Lucky for us, we still have and the practice is in my town. BUT, there's 4 guys coming from Drummondville which is 35 miles from here. They said on the radio that the road is very dangerous and there's a chance it may be closed in the next hours. So, we won't practice. I just can't imagine the show without practicing.

Who knows what tomorrow may bring !!!

I don't really hate Christmas, but I sure do hate Winter !

I try to take the least bit notice of christmas as possible and usually get away with it quite well.

I don't seem to find much sprituality in christmas and the whole christmas idea is nothing really to do with christ or christianity (he wasn't born on christmas day or did anything special on Dec 25 (the date wasn't even invented at the time).

Christmas is also just a commercial trick which promotes greed.

I do think it's great tho' that a large percentage of people get the chance to have time off work. It's also a time when you get to meet up with good friends and let your hair down.

I wouldn't fancy being a parent of young children this time of year tho' - I think I'd take my hypothetical family to somewhere where it is not a national holiday and escape the madness.

Happy Winter Solstice/Christmas everyone
I'm trying to imagine Terry Bozzio doing the first three verses and Frank doing the last one, ala Titties and Beer ;D
[tt]...for multitude of reasons. Because of the pressure of getting the absolute best present for each and every one of your friends and family. Because of the stress-fest that most people (including me) are broke when having to decorate their house and Christmas tree...did I mention buying an unlimited amount of presents for whomever? Christmas is just an obvious marketing ploy (like: Easter, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Halloween, etc.), a "get rich quick" scheme thought up by marketers that I get sick of with each and every passing year.

Merry Christmas? Maybe...but I say, Baaaaaaaa Humbug!

Thank god I have Frank's music to keep me sane during this "time period"...

That's all I wanted to say.[/tt]
I get stress headaches and diarrhea just anticipating being forced to spend time with my family and the manditory happiness I have to fake.I can't think about it too much or I'll get panicy ;D.
We all just know someone's going to say just the right wrong thing and start a fight ;D. We have little to do with each other any other time of the year... ::) seems silly.
