I think he (Salman Rushdie) said that about islamism.
I don't think he said that about politics.
But I may be wrong.

That doesn't stop it being relevant.

Maybe, but knowing his story, I think his aim was the religion.
And it fits.

We may take it for politics but his views on politics ? Not sure but it can be.

Come on. He's made a point that keeping ideas above criticism, satire, derision or contempt prevents freedom of thought. That's a general statement that applies to any ideas. We don't need to know what his political beliefs are - that point is not dependent on his political beliefs.

It still doesn't say a thing about his views about politics, which may be, or may not be, different !
It's just your interpretation.

Read what I wrote. It doesn't matter what his political beliefs are. It's a general idea. Unless of course you believe that Salmon Rushdie is stupid enough to believe that only Islamic ideas should not be above criticism, satire, derision or contempt and that all other ideas should be above it.

I read what you wrote but have you notice that the topic here is "politics" ?
Up to you to interpret his words according to your own desires but that's not my point of view !
:smoke:

Otherwise, why not take out of context any "famous words". ?

Are you kidding me? He's talking about ideas, period. It's a very powerful statement about trying to suppress ideas ... period. It's not about his personal opinions, it's about the Ills of trying to suppress free thought. This applies, whoever is trying to do it.

I'm not kidding but I'll stop losing my time with that.
I don't know of any politician who put a fatwa on him.
The guy is talking religion, that's his main concern.

But, hey, if it makes you happy...
