I own on cd and occasionally listen to The Doors (first album), Morrison Hotel, and LA Woman...but my absolute definitive favorite "Doors moment" is the opening scene of Apocalypse Now with The End playing as the soundtrack. It still gets me every time.

That's how I've always seen it spelled, even on the show. My favorite version of his saying is when a skunk walks by him. I think it's good music to listen to, although I wouldn't buy any blacklight posters or t-shirts of theirs. :P

For all their dissimilarities, Morrison and Zappa were both pursuers of the American Dream and caught more than their share of our National Nightmare. "Let's start a rock 'n' roll band and make a million dollars." I do find intriguing how these icons occasionally intersected in their lives: Gail as a fellow Army brat hitting young Jim with a hammer...the above cited anti-drug radio appearance by JM and FZ (first I heard about it: God please tell me there's a surviving tape of THAT I can hear or read transcribed!) and weren't both the Doors and the Mothers fired off the stage at the Whiskey for saying "fuck" while performing? " I can remember Elmer [Valentine] telling me you really had a lot of talent, but he could never see how anybody could ever make it who insisted on saying "fuck" onstage..." as we hear in "Our Bizarre Relationship" (UNCLE MEAT). I sometimes morbidly wonder: had Zappa died at the Rainbow in 1971, might not he too be the totem of a necrophilly cult? Not that Gail would ever let junkies sleep on Frank's grave. Where is Frank's grave, by the way? I need a spot to shoot up and nod out...just Kidding, Zappa family. Frank woulda laughed. RESPECT! The funniest/saddest story I ever read concerning Morrison come from David Crosby's memoir, oddly enough: it seems Jim and Janis Joplin were talking at a party. Both were (SURPRISE!) shitface drunk.
Jim made Janis run out crying by telling her that white girls couldn't sing the Blues.
(Like consider the messenger...) They both got drunker...nother big surprise. Then Janis stopped feeling sad and started getting mad. Then she went back inside, came up behind Jim and broke a bottle of Wild Turkey over his head, knocking him unconscious in a puddle of (his?) vomit. Now why didn't THAT scene make it into the Oliver Stone biopic? Ahh the Sixties...Summer of Love my ass.
