Hey don't get me wrong..

The dude is fucking great but, he is not the drummer "god!" I find mistakes in his playing too.

I'm not saying i could take his place but there are things that
Bruford or Cobham do that are way beyond what he does from a sticking standpoint that blow him away.

I don't know but sometimes,,(not all the time) but,... I think his "bending time" schtick it blullshit.

On Joe's Garage it was spectacular but now (from what I have heard of his recordings) it's getting to be sone what of a gimmick.

I have two Jing Chi albums and his drumming IMO are almost distracting to the point where it doesn't even groove that much but tries to fool you with his "amazing out of sync fills".

Am I over analyzing this crap or being a dickhead ? I fuckin love Vinnie's playing but hey some of it actually does bite it, I think (IMO)

(Sorry Vin)

Oh yea and now I hear Buffalo come on and it makes me feel like a dipshit.

never fucking mind

I completely agree with you, though I have not listened to anything he's done beyond work for Zappa.

I kinda agree, go to you tube and type in Vinnie Colaiuta, Dave Weckle, Steve Gadd. It is great.

Maybe because he can sight read pretty well anything. My pianist friend told me that a drummer that can sight read directly is very rare.

I do think Vinnie is the best drummer I've ever heard (and I have every mahavishnu album and Cobham solo album and Duke/Cobham band DVD) BUT i must agrre his best work is with Frank. He's a better drummer now but its much less intresting.

I like Vinnie, and like with anything; the people or things you consider to be the best are just that, not everyone has to agree. And -this too is just opinion- Cobham spends too much time on gratuitous drum solo wankery, which brings me to another reason why I like like Vinnie's style so much; he doesn't spend the entire song showing off.

vinnie is my 2nd favorite drummer behind the almighty virgil donati.

if you think his over the bar phrasing and polorythms are a joke, then i don't think u understand them.

and if you think vinnie messes up, what do you think of frank. cuz someone that doesn't know much about his soloing style would listen to most of his solos and go, "what the fuck is he doing, he's out of time, and none of the notes are right."

u just have to get what they are trying to imply.

No he can't! He couldn't sight read The Black Page! He cheated!

But seriously, Vinnie rules. Anyone who's opinion says otherwise, is wrong.
