Dear friends, just got THE MAN FROM UTOPIA today.
Can someone give me some clues on who are (i suppose) the politicians/TV evangelists FZ mentions in
JESUS THINKS YOU'RE A JERK
(Tammy, Robertson, Pat, Jimbo, Melvin...)
That would help greatly in my understanding of the song. (As you might have guessed i am not from the States).
Thanks in advance.

Hey JaimeJuan!
where you from ?
Tammy would be Tammy Faye Messner who just died two years ago: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tammy_Faye_Messner
Robertson is Pat Robertson the de facto leader of the 700 Club an international tv channel dispensing their form of religio-entertaiinment: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pat_Robertson
Jimbo is Jim Bakker who prior to the last Zappa tour had been caught with a prostitute which constituted a scandal in his religio-hierarchated world:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Bakker
Melvin ... I dont know, but I did find interesting stuff in the wikipedia for the NRA = National Rifle Association. It's head makes almost a million $ a year and they as an association reported assets of over $200 million in 2004. They also pushed for and got a repeal on the ban of assault weapons. They're also the ones pretty much responsible for everybody quakin in their boots and paranoid of anybody and everybody else. While they make more money.

As far as the question at the end of the song "... or someday will we?..."
has pretty much already happened and maybe we've come out the other side and maybe not.
I DO think we have definitely gone through the mirror on a number of those areas discussed in the song though. And it's a lot harder gettin back through it.

Thanks, mate. Now that i've got the names i can further search on the net.
I am what you'd call a true European (My grand parents were British, French, Spanish & Danish) but i live in Morocco.
We sometimes hear about the NRA through Charlton Heston, probably their most famous spokesman and we know how powefulit is as a lobby in the US.
And yes, considering what has happened with the Bush administration, the lyrics sound like a prophecy(?).
A coincidence? I don't think so, this happened too often with FZ lyrics.

Please, I have to know, what does this mean? The same thing as "fuck up" I assume?

I like it, I'm going to say "cock up" from now on instead of "I've fucked up".

Thank you for that.

Yep, it's an expression i often heard in England, like:
What a cock up! or I cocked it up!
But English not being my mother tongue, you'd better ask some respected British members of the forum, just to make sure.

The NRA have also been responsible for all gun registration legislation and other seemingly anti gun lobbying. For true gun nuts they are a bit of a Judas goat. They take money from people who believe in the second amendment, and slowly use it to curtail it. Clever stuff.

"Cock Up!"
Sounds like something a short order cook would say when completing the order while ringing the little bell.

Too bad we can't read the label in that picture, he could be using a giant bottle of Cock Brand fish sauce!

I really like BROADWAY THE HARD WAY, Zappa the Entertainer at his best.
A lot of political statements, some of them unclear or even controversial.

ie PROMISCUOUS: is FZ trying to say that the AIDS epidemic was the result of experimentations
conducted by some US govt agencies (and this willingly or not?)

BARITONE WOMEN: this one puzzles me. Any clues?

Music wise, not much to say.
Not much rock, (which is a perfectly normal thing since Elvis has left the building...)
But a great brass section and neat sounding guitar.
BTW, who invented the guitar with a pick-up at the top of the neck?
Was it custom built for FZ? When did he start using it?
