Merry Christmas everyone :)

Haven't gathered for dinner yet, but I'll likely get my usual amazon gift certificates, I pool them and it makes enough for my music download Jones 'till 'bout September :) It's easy for everyone that way, they know what to get me, and I don't wind up with any ties

For some reason I looked at ropes post below.
What a miserable prick.
I won't bother stooping that low again, again.

I'm exactly what I want to be. I don't feel miserable. Hey, I bought Christmas for others, isn't that enough for you plastic capitalists?

I watched Disney's Scrooge the other day. Really horrible what happened to that guy...visited by freaky spirits that scared the shit out of him to the point that he went totally Stockholm and began sucking up to his tormentors.

As duece so aptly proves, a person is simply NOT ALLOWED to reject Christmas. It's like a law or something. But, I'm an atheist, so really, what does the birth of the Christian savior have to do with me? Nothing...it's for kids, and only children take it seriously enough to call someone a "miserable prick" for not participating in the greatest ceremony in all of the entire Bullshit Paradise mass deception.

Caputh. I always think my taste in music in literature, music, and films is kind of weird. But this one is outstanding. I hope you'll learn something about the Portuguese lunar landing at least

I'm always looking for stuff which informs me about stuff that I don't know stuff about. That way I might know more stuff.
Loved your review of BFU, btw.
I'm glad we both had a good time.

Well, we shouldn't believe everything from Disney, should we Rope?

Anyway, I've got my even-more-Atheist-we-hate Xmas-even-more-than-you-best-friends coming 'round for Boxing Day.
We'll toast you tomorrow (whether you like it or not)!

What do you think of it? Interesting, but so much similar stuff in one collection.

Well I had to read it now caputh quoted it
I'm athiest - my kids don't believe in god or santa, my wife is all 'wiccan'.
But we all enjoy a great yuletide, and we have no problem calling it 'xmas', 'christmas' or whatever. No deception, no hypocrisy, just joining in and enjoying it. Same as us joining in with diwali and eating hare krisna food.
Jeez, you sound just like the imams - "the koran forbids us to say merry christmas, it is abhorrent to us".
Enjoy life.

Yep. That's what I thought, too. But first of all I like the package. Looks like an old tape box. It contains three complete concerts from the Irish Tour and a cd with session recordings. And the Tony Palmer film of the Irish Tour. I bought the album when I was 16. And this box is just great. If you are a Rory fan you should buy it. It's just a fan thingie. I like it

There's nothing I like better than being toasted...

...and it isn't just Disney, it's Dickens!

...and I liked the movie, Jim Carrey is a favorite, and I love Dickens, but I admit it's only of late that I have felt that Scrooge is a victim...

...and really duece, is that what I said, you can't have Christmas? I didn't mean it that way, honestly. The last thing I want to do is come off like a religious fanatic, so that's why I don't. It's only you making more of it than it actually is...if you are not a Christian, and if your kids don't believe in Santa Claus or Jesus, what are you doing, exactly? Going along to get along? Appeasing the marketing-induced material wants of your children? Just doing what everyone else is doing but in your atheist/wiccan way? The truth is...you CANNOT NOT HAVE Christmas, because if you didn't go along with it, folks wouldn't like you very much, and your kids would have fits.

(Sorry if I seem a little crass, but you called me a prick. It doesn't bother me that you ignore me, but I do wonder how an atheist/wiccan/Zappahead can be so intolerant of iconoclastic viewpoints...).

All I want for Christmas is NO Christmas!

...and that's pretty much what I got this year thank you very much!

I apologise for the insult.
Anyway, as for the marketing thing, I'm always telling the kids that just cos its advertised, it doesn't mean they need it - it means someone needs to sell it.
Xmas's nowadays are great for me, without going OTT on the spending either. I lived overseas for six years, two of those xmas's I spent on my own, and were exceedingly miserable. The last few I spent with friends who valued company and also giving / receiving etc. They were great xmas's.

Yeah I would be up in the city with my gal but I have to work. I've spent many a Christmas alone due mostly to my travels. I guess an unstable life inhibits the forming of personal traditions, so these things are not strong in me. I did not mean to crap on anyone's personal Christmas, I just like to bitch about stuff I can't do a damn thing about. I reckon I'm jealous.

Anyway my place is comfortable enough alone with seven cats. My common-law step-daughters came by to visit. They brought me a gift...an old book that isn't an old book it just looks like one it's a stash box.

I had to give up drinking, or I'd have some nog.

Joni Mitchell set. Joni Mitchell "In Her Own Words book." A nice scarf. 7-8 CDs and 1 DVD (Jeff Beck). Some chocolate. Some tangerines. A nice warm shirt. That's about all I can remember. A nice haul.
