I seen that it comes a lot of spam here when the forum changed.
But i wonder why people replay to the spam threads???

If you reaplay then they will stay on top of the board
just leave them, and they will "disapear"....

Hey knepo
It seems we have 2 options.

1. Everyone who keeps going to these threads and pages would have to stop doing so, which would make it pointless for them to make more threads. Since, it seems that the members of this forum have no intention to stop looking at boring commercials, the only practical solution seems to be:

2. A while back, Huck did alot of work. When the boards were bombarded with spam, he went to the trouble of posting to ALOT of other threads, which moved the spam threads off of Page 1. Doing this, not only are less people bothered by having spam on Page 1, but less people go to those spam threads which makes for ineffective advertising.

So, if you want to do the work, knock yourself out! Post to 50 threads (50 Non-Spam threads!) on the General Board. On each thread, post something you can cut and paste like "I am only posting this to get the spam off of Page 1". Everyone will know why it is being done and the spam will be virtually gone!

I suppose item 3 would be that Mikey does something, but he's had a while and I haven't heard that he'll be taking action....

My 2 cents are?

-Don't reply them, ever...

-Don't even look at them...

My guess is that these people don't track whether you reply to any of these, so it doesn't matter as long as you don't click on any of the links. Moderators should just delete these threads every once in a while.

Yep Im with stude there. There aint no way these people spamming forums, keep track of who has replied and who hasn't. They probably post so much of this crap, they'd be hard pushed to keep track of where they posted and when. I think it's best to either ignore them, or make them our own threads - that way even if people do reply (and yep, Im one of them on occasion), we still end up getting a laugh maybe, out of something that started off as shitty spam.
Judging by the fact that the spam threads aint been removed, it doesn't seem to be a priority right now.

I think that artificially floating threads just to get rid of spam is almost as bad as the spam. When I log on I'm generally looking for new posts and finding a whole stack of floated threads could be annoying. An important point about spam threads is that the spammers do not need to check whether or not anyone reads their threads as Slime, I think, pointed out. If we ignore those posts they will still keep coming.

I really think the only way to deal with them is for Mikey to delete them and even that could be a thankless task because they don't use registrations more than once. They just keep reregistering. Notice how rapidly the number of registrations has increased since the new forum started. Maybe complicating the registration process would help.

The other thing is, given that they won't stop and that it is painful, sometimes having a laugh helps and there I agree with Aspy, posting some of our own attempts at humour on those threads lightens the effect.

If the Admin doesn't feel he has the time or energy to delete them, then I say; don't reply to them. Let the spam-threads slowly sink down to the bottom of the Forum.

Maybe that's not the best idea either, but it's one way of not getting them in at all.

I posted this on another thread, but it applies here too:

I remove it as I see it, but unfortunately, it's not spam created by bots, but by real people who have nothing better to all day than create accounts on message boards all over the internet. They clearly have more free time than I do, and though I can bock them signing up by their email domain name and IP address, these things are virtually infinite on the web, and they'll just sign up again tomorrow.

Best you can do is PM me with any threads you see, and don't reply to them.

I'll clean them up swiftly.

For sure they will come, but if no one replays to them, they will "sink to the bottom of the forum" as lumpy said so well
That was what i ment when i said they would "dissapear". Maby my way of expressing myself in english didnt get that piont out very well.

Funny how one of my sisters loves Hormel's thing that looks like meat, gets pissed at people who ridicule it and hates the fact that c/o Monty Python it got used to mean junk email and hyperlinks nobody wants.
I could never get by its flesh-like pigmeat qualities and intentionally mispronounce it "sperm" for the mildly obnoxious effect.

Well, one of spam's qualities is that it does "multiply" incessantly.

Change the forum to YABB 2.1 - there's loads of ways to prevent spam so it never gets through.

There is no way of preventing a real person creating an account with a legitimate email address and manually posting spam.

The best we can do right now is to delete it as it appears.

These are plenty of ways to prevent it here too, however most of those ways are designed to prevent bots.
