I find narrowing down my top ten albums very difficult, so I decide to try my top twenty. Also difficult, but initially came up with the following. These are in chronological order only, as I'm finding it very difficult to put them in order by favourite.

Freak Out
We're Only In It For The Money
Lumpy Gravy
Uncle Meat
Hot Rats
Burnt Weeny Sandwich
Chunga's Revenge
Fillmore East
Two Hundred Motels
Waka Jawaka
The Grand Wazoo
Overnite Sensation
Apostrophe
Roxy And Elsewhere
One Size Fits All
Studio Tan
Sleep Dirt
Orchestral Favorites
Broadway The Hard Way
Yellow Shark

This post seemed so hard to respond to I just had to give it a whirl. Like so many other fans listing the order and picking a favorite is just next to impossible as I love so much of Franks incredible music. Well here goes in a kind of order but honestly it's a way to hard basket. So 20 albums and think whatever you like of the order. (Alive or Post Humously released perhaps should have been specified but as it's not I'll assume anything is allowed.)

1. The Grand Wazoo
2. The Roxy Box set
3. Hot Rats
4. The Lather album (For me it's the Ryco release of that set from 1996 I like the best as it seemed to be the closest to what Frank wanted to originally release. The legendary 8 sided album.)
5. Them or Us
6. Chunga's Revenge
7. Shut Up and Play Your Guitar(the whole 3 album set, you can't split this up.)
8. Bongo Fury
9. Zoot Allures
10. Waka Jawaka
11. Tinsel Town Rebellion
12. Joe's Garage
13. Halloween 77 box set
14. Apostrophe
15. Overnight Sensation
16. One Size Fits All
17. Sleep Dirt(although already included in the Lather album but different versions.)
18. Little Dots
19. London Symphony vol 1 and 2(you can't split these up they belong together as a complete work)
20. 200 Motels.

Now that was REALLY hard and I'm already feeling bad for not including Burnt Weenie Sandwhich, Freak Out, Absolutely Free, Sheik Yerbouti and You are What You is.

I could perhaps tell you my least favorite, least listened to Zappa album because it's simply one of Franks laziest of efforts and done as a complete piss take comedy what the F&*K and why not release and that's 'Thing Fish.' It goes well if your reading Franks books 'Them or Us.' though. It fits in with the anything anytime anywhere for absolutely no reason at all idiom(yes I have both the Frank Zappa studio release(which came as what looks to be a burn on demand CD-R of which I verified with ZFT to be sure it wasn't a bootleg but apparently this is normal for this album now.) and the version that was performed in Franks honor thanks to Gail. Still doesn't really lift it up much as there's so much better music in the Frank Zappa catalogue. Still it's Zappa, it's unique and it has it's charms when the mood is right. I think there's still vinyls available from ZFT for Thing Fish but I can understand why......(this fan is just fine and dandy with the CD release only for Thing Fish.)

1. Burnt Weeny Sandwich
2. Bongo Fury
3. The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life
4. Roxy & Elsewhere
5. Lumpy Money (cheating, but wtf)
6. Weasels Ripped My Flesh
7. Sheik Yerbouti
8. Uncle Meat
9. Fillmore East
10. One Size Fits All
11. 200 Motels (but won't someone remaster it?)
12. Broadway The Hard Way
13. Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch
14. Hot Rats
15. The Grand Wazoo
16. The Yellow Shark
17. Mystery Disc 1
18. Make A Jazz Noise Here
19. Apostrophe
20. You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 4

The first 4 are pretty constant for me, the others vary according to mood. Some albums, I made the mistake of overplaying on release (i.e. listening to them non-stop for about a year)- "You Are What You Is" and "Thing Fish" being examples.

More a preference ranking than a chronological thing. Although, now looking at it I would probably switch Zoot and Rats. After OSFA and Bongo, waiting for Lather, I was really let down with Zoot, but have warmed up to it in recent years.Yes, I know, thats 21.
