Man! It seems to me some people here want it all for free. While trying to aggravate those who feed their collections too! This download generation has to come to realize music does not come out "for free". It does not appear without cost to the artist or makers of any product.....physical or not. If you DO NOT PAY in any way,......that is THE END of the artist's or "music provider's" want to make these items you are supposed to buy (to support the making of more). It is very simple. ALSO.....I don't know if it's the same situation for larger "bands" or "music providers"(like the Zappa Family) , but downloads provide less profit for the artist compared to actual physical music items(LPs, and CDs). I know, because I sell music of my own....and a one song download costs the buyer 99cents,....and I get ONE CENT of that. The rest goes to distribution companies....and then they also charge $2 for any payments made to me. So....if I sell 200 song downloads....I don't get anything for that! Yes, it's that tilted towards the companies getting profit and not that artist. It effectively kills small bands off who self release music....unless you sell by the thousands of downloads.

So...you LOVE Frank Zappa....buy Frank Zappa family releases. You HATE what is going on here....expect to get NO MORE Frank Zappa music! It's that simple.

I don't know who you use for distribution but you need to get out of that deal asap, are you seriously saying from a 99cents download you only make 1 cent? i also sell music and that is nowhere near the truth, iTunes for instance keep around 40% of the price and the remaining 60% is yours, so from a 99cent download you make around 70cents, also the distribution do not charge me any money to withdraw my money, it's free. whoever you are using is ripping you off big time.

Bought the 3 Lp set today in the store.
Haven't heard it yet, but the packaging is totally brilliant: very good quallity or reproduction of the original artwork AND the additional artwok concerning the bonus tracks is completely relevant to the original artwork. Plus fascinating extra liner notes by Ruth and Ray White. Very good work, and another priceless reissue !

Thank you all at the ZFT.

Amazon.ca lowered their price. Now, it is just $6 more to buy, with free same-day arrival, than my Amazon.com order.
So, close enough. Canceled original order, and went for the no-border-hassles Canadian order.

Jeez. It was lowered to $100.26 CDN when I went to work this morning. Now I'm back home from work, and it is $127.65!
I used to think I was obsessive, by checking prices 3 times a day, but now....

OK, I got a tax refund and have ordered the LP set. Killing two stones with one bird: I get the desired side 6 and increase my Zappa LP collection greatly, from 2 discs to 5. (The rest of the catalog is CD).

Possible run on the 3LP, if they did not print enough. Amazon price went up a few dollars.

I have figured out pretty much what I will be getting except the Black napkins. It appears to be a longish version.
Disc: 3
1. Black Napkins (Side A)
2. Cruisin' For Burgers (1977 Mix) (Side A)
3. The Black Page #2 (Piano Version) (Side B)
4. I Promise Not To Come In Your Mouth (Alternate Version) (Side B)
5. Punky's Whips (Unused Version) (Side B)
6. The Black Page #1 (Piano Version) (Side B)

Best deal I could find was Import CDs at $71.14--after tax and shipping, just over 80 smackers. At that price I ought to get a real pizza with it.

Got mine yesterday (Friday 3/29) and skipped right to Discs 2-5. It's a similar listening experience to the Roxy box because the music is familiar yet new...if that makes sense. Tommy Mars' Black Page #2 appears to be played on either a prepared piano or a synth piano on a strange setting. I think in the notes it just says piano though.

The 28 minute Black Napkins could be twice as long or longer, so good.

The Black Napkins from YCDTOS with the Brecker solo is played with the live 76 Zappa solo instead of skipping to 1984. Your brain is so used to hearing it with the 84 that it takes a second to realize what's going on.

I got one listen all the way through before the family came home, I expect to be living with this for the next few weeks digesting it all. As much as I like the Roxy box with all of its' exhaustive completeness, I think this model might be a better way to go with future boxes, ie the BEST version of each song from that band's setlist rather than a whole run or a whole show.

One comment, so far, on amazon . . .

5 stars
GREAT sounding reissue... BUT

Format: Vinyl

"I love the reissue and the three-record vinyl set sounds awesome. It was recut from the original 1977 analog master that hasn't been available since 1977. The art and everything about the package is excellent EXCEPT - I received my first copy which had duplicates of record 1 - no record 2 and one record 3. I returned it and received my replacement today, and this copy had the same problem. This seems to be a bad batch that Amazon (or whoever fulfills the order) received. I am hoping the third time is the charm. I really think all the Zappa vinyl reissues have sounded excellent, and this is no exception." - Bob R

I pre-ordered ($64.22) the 5-cd set. I selected free shipping, and it arrived today (amazon sent it using Prime). 8)

I've got orders delivered even on Sun when I got "free shipping." I don't have prime as nearly all the books I buy are used, ship for $ 3.99.
