Mine arrived this morning - a week earlier than expected - great surprise! This release is fantastic - it's amongst the top of the list of posthumous FZ releases - I am really enjoying it and at the risk of upsetting the nihilists around and about, and without asking their permission, I wish to thank everyone responsible for making this possible. People forget that money is a modern means of trade and when you're paid for something, it doesn't cancel out your efforts.

Ruth's piano rendition of Black Page #1 is a major highlight, but there are many, especially those that make good use of the brass ensemble, for example the rendition of Penis Dimension.

Caveat: I made this a separate post, because I am really happy with this release, but I just want to know if I'm the only one who's had problems with the booklet. It might just be an unlucky manufacturing problem but nine of the pages have just come out on the first couple of reads. Anyone else? I've contacted amazon.com by email and am awaiting their response.

Browsed booklet twice for a short period with no issues.

Any word on how 'limited' this version really is?

Discogs listing says 5000

https://www.discogs.com/Frank-Zappa-Zap ... e/13416770

bought mine from amazon.ca for $108 CDN = tax, they knocked it down 8 bucks and now list it for $127, odd.

Many thanks to ZFT and Joe Travers for making this possible.

FZ made it possible. ZFT is charging top dollar for these 42+ year old recordings. Most of the work was done in 1976.

You are absolutely wrong. I spent a year between transferring all of the master tapes, assembling the 3 plus hours of unreleased performances, supervised the remixes from scratch along with all of the editing. Sorry there buddy. Thanks for the positive attitude.

Excellent work on this Joe Travers.

I have an older brother who bought this album when it first came out. I was 9 or 10 years old at the time. I have a fond recollection of hearing this and literally it's been since the early 80's since my my ears have absorbed this original mix.

Since after the CD version first came out, then Lather I've grown accustomed to how those sound. This new version for the 40th brings it back. The extra material is awesome. Like that it's formatted like a full show.

Too bad full uncut masters of this run don't exist. Must have been great shows to attend.

Personally I dig these expanded reissues and live show releases. Wish I could have gotten in on the "Who the Fuck is Frank Zappa" movie perks to hear what was made exclusively available there.

I pre-ordered this sucker and have been listening to it all week.

The 28 minute version of Black Napkins is the absolute highlight. Eddie Jobson simply couldn't have come up with a better violin solo, as it perfectly fits the dynamics & mood of the song. Runners up, are the rarely-performed, Penis Dimension & America Drinks, the ultra-funky, Montana and recently unearthed renditions of Ruth Underwood's piano arrangement of The Black Page #1 & Tommy Mars' piano version of The Black Page #2. It's also important to note that the horn section solos in The Purple Lagoon are more than worthy of repeated listens.

This is definitely one of the best ZFT releases thus far and easily tops Philly '76 from this era. Well done, ZFT! I can't stop listening to this!

So Tommy Mars was not in this band. Was it an exercise Zappa made him do, to play the solo version in the studio?

I wouldn't call it "unearthed" when Ruth recorded it in 2017 especially for this set.

2nd look through the booklet, and a page fell out.
(and, because of poly's post, I was being extra careful, too)
