oh, I should have mentioned it a new box set all 6 shows from halloween at the palladium in new york, 1978. 18 hours worth!
it's the shows the Baby Snakes movie was made from."

My goodness, 18 hours!
Schweeet! These were my first shows, thanks for the heads up!

Well, I believe that this has always happened. If you just consider the number of references in the grey market, many of them should have already been produced by subsidiaries of music majors.

I'm also eagerly waiting. My guess would be a release around Halloween. The question is: What year?

If Adrian Belew is doing the liner notes, it seems likely that this would be the '77 Halloween run and not '78. I wonder if they ran video for the full run? A CD/DVD/Blu-Ray set would be quite massive and pricey. By my estimation from the setlists on Zappateers, this would be at least a 14 or 15 CD set. With video, With video at least another disc or two per show. Seems like a good candidate for a high resolution flash drive as a media option.

I love the '77 Halloween run, but that '78 one would be even more awesome. More variety of songs in the setlists.

They're overdue for some kind of release announcement.

It's 77. Belew originally posted 78 as the year, but someone pointed out that Baby Snakes was made from the 77 shows, and he concurred and corrected it to 77.

Joe talked about it on ZappaCast. I believe it will happen but can I afford it?

Halloween 77 is now listed on HMV's website in Japan.
Release date is 6 October, and there are two versions:

3 CD http://www.hmv.co.jp/artist_Frank-Zappa ... 77_8167572

and

Costume Box Set (despite description, this is likely to be the complete set) http://www.hmv.co.jp/artist_Frank-Zappa ... et_8167573

I really like the People introduction translated: "It is Zappa that is often discussed in words such as "esoteric", "metamorphosis" and so on, without being swept away by the times, the attitude that continued to stick to his own music must continue to be evaluated unchanged from now on."

Always nice to have a sketchy site from Japan scoop the release date from the ZFT.
I may snag the Costume box if it is the whole run.

According to the price at 18,241 Yen on that websight, it converts to around $160 US. Not a bad price if the set is the entire run at about 18 hours of music or whatever it was that Adrian Belew Tweeted about writing the notes for. Looking forward to this one!

Maybe you get an actual costume with the costume set since it is Halloween themed. Maybe a Pope outfit ala Roy Estrada or a WAC suit like Adrian wore. :)

That would probably fit in the box better.

I've heard a rumor of another release coming in December in addition to the Halloween '77 release coming in October. Details of what it will be is being kept secretive at the moment.

I think jaypfunk would have said something like, "Name your sources or $@#*!!!!!"

What's with the tease? Annoying. Say what you heard or don't.

The source was Joe himself. He wouldn't give any other details.

Just a guess, but I think it will be Rage and the Fury. Ahmet mentioned during the kickstarter campaign webcast countdown that it would be released "soonish."

The set was listed on amazon.ca this morning for $CAD 105.73. I preordered it and got a confirmation from amazon.

However, the listing has since disappeared from the website.

And I think that's because if the "Costume Boxed Set" really does comprise of all 6 NYC Palladium '77 Halloween week shows in their entirety and a costume of some sort, then there's no way in hell it's only going to cost $105.73 - because that would be at least 12 discs worth of material. My guesstimate, considering the above, is that it'll be in the $150-$175 range...
