Small band - hit and miss IMO (can't replace denny with a keyboard solo).
It is coz OZ was a long way to go with a bigger band, or what?

Nah, it's just that FZ was touring with small bands (five pieces, expanded to six during Norma Bell and Lady Bianca's brief stints) during that whole late '75 - early '77 period. And of course expanded up the proverbial wazoo for the Zappa in NY shows.

Love it but I'm from Oz, especially the Norman Gunston Cameo is a hoot.

Is probably my favorite post Zappa release and a cherished CD.

This was a period when FZ was was dealing with some legal issues regarding his break with Herb Cohen so he probably wanted to keep things simple.

Very true,

When FZ toured OZ previously in 73, he brought the whole crew George, Ruth, Ralph , Ralph, Ian, Tom, Bruce & Sal.

I think the split with Herb Cohen was not until after the tour ended.

One of Gail's stated goals was to present shows by some of Frank's lesser-known bands. This was a prime example of that...

The lineup he originally planned to use on the tour (heard on Joe's Camouflage) was going to include seven players.
