Anyone who invests money to put product on the market, wants his investment back better sooner than later. And that is the problem. There is no significant market for Zappa products anymore. If you think that's not true then you are probably hopelessly living in the past.
I can't imagine that Universal made any profit from the reissue campain in 2012.
Sad but probably true.
There isn't a "significant" market for Zappa product any longer, no. BUT there definitely still is a market for Zappa product. Otherwise, none of the 2012 Universal remastered titles (or any other titles, for that matter) would be available for sale...
And the fact that they continue to re-release the same stuff over and over is puzzling... Ok, the strict collectors WILL buy it because they're anal...but the average person, unless they are getting something for the first time (kind of like when I got into it hardcore, and was looking for anything I could get my hands on back in the mid-80's)
The quality isn't THAT much of a significant difference, and the audiophiles will tell you that version "X" is better than version "Y" because of some sort of limitation...variation...etc. so...
Zappa isn't the household name that he once was...not that he was a significant one...but there still IS a market..and there are enough people in the world to pick up on some of the releases.
