Yes, Greasy Love Songs. Or the original vinyl mix.
Then I vote for the original vinyl mix.
Greasy Love Songs is too heavily compressed, I just cannot stand it.

The entire vinyl rip is on youtube I believe. That is where I first heard it.

Not massively. It's a bit warmer, Greasy has a distant sound. Your average person wouldn't notice.
I like the interviews and stories with FZ at the end of GLS.

Now I'm listening to Ship/Witch, then I'd listen to some synclavier, but after that I guess it'll come Cruisin'. You are right about the ghosty thing from Greasy.

But once you've ripped the vinyl you've already lost some of the information so it is not the same as listening to the vinyl on a turntable.

Well to be fair, to the untrained ears it would be the same.

Okay. If you say so. I suppose I have a heightened sense of hearing. I'm not an audio snob by any means but I certainly hear a difference.

downer, I have to assume that you know that the differences on the various CWR&TJ formats are way beyond Harmonic Sequence preferences, right? I have the old vinyl, the Old Masters vinyl, the old cd, and GLS and they ALL sound different to my ears. Outside of WOIIFTM, the differences on these albums, from a mastering standpoint, are more obvious than any other FZ album. NP did mention youtube though, which is often super low-res and probably not a beautiful vinyl experience. For what its worth, I prefer the old vinyl that I ripped to mp3 myself.

Yeah. I was mostly commenting on the YouTube rip versus the vinyl played on a turntable. You could argue that my headphones plugged into my computer are not as dynamic as the turntable speakers but what struck me was exactly what maroual indicated. The compression. It's hard to describe beyond that but we've been down this road before. Edges seem to get rounded off. But I can tell the difference between 320 and 256 and I have been tested. Might be fun to give me 2 versions and see if I can tell which is 256 and which is lossless or even 320.

Yeah, but I like this road.
Per your pedigree... what equipment do you need to make your determinations? I'm assuming that you need something a bit better than a headphone amp, generic speakers etc...

HOLD THE MOTHER FUCKIN' PHONE, NIGGAZ!

My wife just got me, in complete secrecy CWRATJ on Vinyl with a real good quality sleeve and mint disc!! I FINALLY get the hear it in its true form. No compression from GLS (with the ghostly aura), no stupid drums and bass and no loss from a youtube rip.

It arrives tomorrow. I've shot my load so many times just thinking about it. Christmas came early.

Just got it right now. It's beautiful. I can't wait to give it a spin. I'll report on the sound. Might listen to it side-by-side to GLS and really see/hear how different it is.

Made in the UK, pressed in 1968! 46 years old and not a blemish!

Also I found out in only cost her £23!! That is about $35, what a bargain.

I first heard CWR&TJ in the 80s when I got the Old Masters Box. It was ok, but never really "clicked". Through the 90s, I never much went back to it. Then somewheres around mid 2000s I got an old vinyl and it made all the difference. I like it better than all the other variations in format.

How much does a vinyl reproducer cost approximately?

Well, there is the whole vinyl quality issue...

but, for the purposes of CWR&TJ, there are actual mix differences that you can hear in digital copies of the vinyl, if you happen to pursue such things... Try it, its a way of life! :)

But, as far as I'm concerned, it's not the same as the vinyl itself.

I would be really surprised if you could distinguish a digital transfer and a vinyl during an ABX test (aka randomized double-blind test).
Unfortunately, we will never do this so you can affirm anything.

It's just that a lot of people say shit like "CD is crap", so I thought that maybe there was indeed a lot of difference. Not that it makes a heck of a lot of difference to you... 8)

In my eyes the reasons to get the vinyl is because they are fun to collect, you can fetish the artwork/sleeve and of course quite often the mix is different. Sometimes only slightly, but they all sound warmer no matter what.
CD's obviously have advantages, easier to store, contain more music, more durable, can rip to laptop and so one.

I mainly like listening to the old vinyls because I feel like I'm back in another time. Sat in the room with the record player, reading the notes and lyrics and being forced to listen to a whole side of music, as was intended. I love it.

I know it's highly unlikely, but I wish that any FZ could be released in DTS. I've got five recording by other artists in this format and I believe the sound blows most everything else away.
