On his Facebook page, Ralph Humphrey revealed that "a four disc box set of performances by the Mothers from the 1973 Halloween show in Chicago" will be released by the ZFT.

It is expected that this will be both the early and late shows, and should be out after Orchestral Faves 40/before Halloween.

"I'm sitting in with former Zappa band members and others this Wednesday and Thursday at the Baked Potato. The event precludes the release of a 4 disc box set of performances by the Mothers from the 1973 Halloween show in Chicago. Should be a fun time." - Ralph Humphrey

I get the feeling that Ralph doesn't understand the meaning of the word "preclude".

verb
1. prevent from happening; make impossible.

2. (of a situation or condition) prevent someone from doing something.

Or he meant to type "precede" and fell foul of spell check.

Awesome as this is sure to be, it seems a trifle redundant so soon after Roxy. I've been wishing for decades for a full release from the spring tour that year, with Ian Underwood, Jean-Luc Ponty, and Sal Marquez in the lineup. The San Diego show (with Don Preston sitting in) is my Holy Grail.

If true, this is fantastic news!

However, I think an Australian '73 tour box set would be better...

That dam spill checker precluded Ralph form property getting a cross his pint. 8)

Any and all new official releases are welcome.

I'm precluding in anticipation of this. But it's another 60 dollars. I also have dental care to pay for. maybe if I sell all my duplicate Beatles albums? They should get...2 dollars each. The stuff that has now been remastered. Though I like my old White Album. And I have a MONO CD of Magical Mystery Tour.

Good god, they must think Zappa fans are 10 years old. This is just embarrassing, as well as being a massive waste of shelf space.

I too wish this was a spring '73 release w/ Marquez, Ponty, & Ian. Would gladly take the 4-CD set for $63, damn Amazon and their one day low prices on pre-orders. Could care less about the mask/box. Not paying $99 for this. At least they ditched the thumb-drive thing. Unless the price comes down around $60, will likely settle with the highlight disc.

Got the Orchestral 3-CD the other day. Need to sit down with discs 2 & 3. That was reasonably priced, got it for $29 w/ shipping/tax from Amazon.
