I've always kind of overlooked this album in preference to The Grand Wazoo, but I've recently started to get into it. What are your thoughts about Waka, people? :P

It's Hot Rats Act II
It's the Wazoo Ensemble
It's namesake is on Quaudiophiliac in a wunnerfull surround with more stuff!
It's George Duke and Tony Duran, It's the Fowler Brothers and Ruth
It's short but packs a mighty punch that keeps on punchin
Big Swifty is one of my favorite songs

<take it away, folks>

What do you think of Hot rats? WJ in my opinion IS FZ musically.

One of my favorites, only 4 songs, but it never gets boring.
I have it on vinyl and love everything about it, not just the music.
The album cover is great and also the picture of FZ on the back must be one of the best ever !

Waka/Jawaka rules, but then again, so does the Grand Wazoo, Imaginary Diseases and Wazoo.
A great period in FZ's already great career...

I was just listening to this today. I love the pedal steel in One Shot Deal.

Me too. One Shot Deal was one of the songs I used to play for people to try and get them to like Zappa, because of that solo.

sleep / cal,
That pedal steel solo is one of my favourite musical moments, period. I have only ever had this on vinyl and the sound quality is great. So warm.
Dunbar's drumming is perfect. Quite basic sounding, as in keeping the beat going, but very difficult to play as smoothly as he does.
For me, the track takes a turn with the line "you can be scared when it gets too real". Don't know why but it gives me goose pimples. Then, those goose pimples get goose pimples when Dunbar's tom tom roll introduces that solo....... 8)

It's fine for the musical material, but when I collect Zappa oddities in a playlist...Baby Take Your Teeth Out etc., I laways include the froggy song, http://globalia.net/donlope/fz/lyrics/W ... .html#Deal

and after all, many things we do are One Shot Deals!

^^^
I've always wondered what this was about.
It seems like a specific story yet it's elliptically told
when Frank's story-songs could be very direct and explicit.
This time he chose to be eliptical.

Anybody know? Was it in the book and I just forgot?

The sweater vest was up for auction a couple of years ago. I wonder who bought it and what they did with it.

When I was 18 I had my mom knit me a Paul McCartney type vest. I asked her not to buy new yarn, so her bands had black and gray as well.

It was the 50 cents that put him over the top.
