You might think it's not too spiffy, but I really like the simplicity of the Mothermania cover. Nothing like that elsewhere, from the Mothers.

I also like the Donald Roller Wilson series of covers.
His site is bitchin: http://www.donaldrollerwilson.com/

Hot Rats - Is there somthing erie looking about that cover or what? I also really like The Grand Wazoo. It's a great idea...if only wars were fought with music instead of weapons.

Ten Favorite FZ album cover designs:

01 We're Only In It For The Money
02 Over-nite Sensation
03 Thing-fish
04 Them Or Us
05 Mothermania
06 The ***** Of The Mothers
07 One Size Fits All (Maybe my favorite)
08 The Grand Wazoo
09 Burnt Weeny Sandwich
10 Tinseltown Rebellion

Special mention:
The photo of FZ as President inside the BROADWAY THE HARD WAY cover never fails to make me smile. Too funny!!! And the cover of the original LSO 2 album came close to making the list. I love that picture of Frank with one of his cats. (Was it his? I'm just assuming here...)

Of the 3 Gary Painter covers, I always liked the back cover of STUDIO TAN with the mice and the pizza crusts and cigarette butts! I also like the SLEEP DIRT cover. ORCHESTRAL FAVORITES downright stunk.

Am I crazy, or am I right in thinking Gary Painter designed the sets & stuff for the PEE WEE'S PLAYHOUSE tv show?

ship arriving too late.
the drawing is much more older than the album. i wonder if zappa saw the drawing and then composed the piece (probably not, but i kinda like thinking about it this way).

That cover is right on the spot in the conceptual continuity!! ;D
[/quote]

i agree. listening to the story on YCDTOSA vol 1 revealed another mystery of the universe for me. could there have been another chance to figure out what the One Size cover meant before that (unless, of course you've been to those 1971 shows)?

I have always loved the LUMPY GRAVY cover....
It's fantastic: Frank with his PIPCO T-shirt, his moustache, goatee AND afro looking into the camera....i love it
