It’s possible Frank is playing all instruments and singing all vocals.

I would love feedback on this track. Is it all Frank or not? Is Ray Collins helping out with some of the backing vocals? Drums?

A few responses, so far. Here's one of them . . .

I remember it too!
It has at least one edit if not more and sounds most like a number of things chronicled in Joe's Corsage, but not this exactly. The very beginning couple bars sounds like the instrumental lead in to that, with a couple more sounding like a bit of Motherly Love found on JC. But the bulk of it sounds very like the version of I'm Not Satisfied on Joe's Corsage. There are some minor variations and the ending has some additional vocal overdubs and Frank's ... direction.

Do you remember when Imaginary Diseases came out and the extra clip of live audio front-paged for that? I don't think it's appeared elsewhere either.

Punky, I think you meant to write I Ain't Got No Heart, rather than I'm Not Satisfied, as it is not on Joe's Corsage. 8)

Yes, I hear the similarities, too.

Over a basic beat of 4/4, it starts with four bars of a Lil' Clanton Shuffle type of instrumental lead in, segueing into four bars of the start of I Ain't Got No Heart, just like on Joe's Corsage (where there are more bars of the shuffle intro and a key change), which segues into I'm Not Satisfied. I think this was an early arrangement of an intro that I'm assuming he tried on both I'm Not Satisfied and I Ain't Got No Heart and eventually dropped it and wrote new distinct intros for both songs, as employed on Freak Out.

Interesting. That's a plausible theory. 8)

I recognized that spoken bit at the end, about "finally cutting my on record", and I was sure I've heard it before. and, it's on the mofo 4-disc.

he says pretty much the same thing at the end of "you're probably wondering why I'm here [vocal overdub take 1/take 2]". (mofo disc two, track 7).

and, I'm not so sure it's fz playing the drums. I don't know, but it just sounds more like jimmy carl black to me...

and, there's definitely one more voice in the background doing some noises here and there...

great find, though, and I also remember that staircase.

That's a good catch, Lumpy. Thanks for pointing that out. Here are transcripts of the two monologues:

From MOFO: "I never thought I'd cut a record by myself, but I saved up a lot of money, went downtown, and here we are."

From Guess What: "And now that I've finally cut a record by myself, I think it was really fun to do, and I hope all you kids will go out and phone up the disc jockey, and turn the machine off."

I don't know, but it does not sound like Zappa on drums...

Right, you're right.

It's disturbing to me how memories slide together as I get older :/
