This is very hard to decide because this album kicks all kinds of ass. However, even though I have always liked the '88 tour version of this song much better (even though it's not featured in it's entirety) than the album version because of it's slower tempo, Eat That Question gets my vote. And it's primarily because of the tight soloing and structure of AD & GD...

wasn't that tour the only time it was performed live ¿ unless it was played during an uncirculated show

the tune is a prime solo vehicle; always wondered why it was foreshortened in '88

According to this site...

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepage ... tew/88.htm

...it was played on both legs of the '88 tour. But after a quick viewing on this site...

http://home.swipnet.se/fzshows/88.html

...I see it was probably only performed in Pittsburgh on March 8 and Vienna (Wien) on May 8 (maybe a few other times if I took a closer look). And I believe there was only one '88 show that wasn't recorded and is not in circulation and that's the second Paris show at Le Zenith on May 21 - even though it's not confirmed this show did take place...I think it did.

Likewise. It just begs to be given it's proper time in the spotlight...

In 1973 "Eat That Question" would also occasionally spring out of "Big Swifty" improvisations, like in May 9th at Passaic. With the melody being doubled and harmonized beautifully by violin, flute and brass.

This is one of the hardest questions to answer. Probably the question itself is senseless as the whole album is one of the masterpieces of the20th century (and I almost sure it will be hanged up at the very top of list in the 21th century too).
So, I had to restrict my choice between The Grand Wazoo, Blessed Relief and Eat that Question.
Finally I voted for The Grand Wazoo because of the absolutely innovative (at the beginning of the '70s) way of using the brass section and also because of the fantastic ease that section jumps on the shuffle rhythm.

Wazoo band only played the title track and "For Calvin" at their concerts.

73 band played "Eat that question" from time to time, as explained above by me.

"Calvin" is my favourite these days.....

Funny how a tune can go from least favourite to fave
over the course of a mere 34 years...heh

BTW...the original Australian pressing craps all over the CD release...
I used it for hi-fi demo in the 70's....especially "Cletus"

I have a few, but I voted for "Cleetus Awreetus -Awrightus" cause it's a lot of fun..

But the most moving song is "Blessed Relief"...I always put that on before going to bed...Awesome song!

I also love the title track...Great when Frank's guitar riff comes in! :)

Cleetus is one of my faves. so many things about it that epitomize FZ. that being said, it is probably the least representative of his composistional style out of all tracks on the album. ETQ is also one of my faves, but improvisation takes a back seat to composition in FZ's case.

so i went with Blessed Relief. I'm a melody guy, and thats one of the best ever
