Seriously ? Looks promising ?
A USB stick and no CDS at all in the box set ?

A simple download code for the 24bit files would have suffice, then, if they didn't want to press 14 cds box sets.

Then, I'll pass. Already ordered from Amazon.ca but will cancel when we have official confirmation. I don't need a Halloween costume.

I'm fine with the 3-CD set and am actually relieved that I don't have to think about buying a 14-CD set or however many it would have been. That's just overkill. Like w/ King Crimson and those 20 disc box sets, I avoided those and just stick to standard live releases. No need for it all, with a lot of overlap from KCCC and standard live discs "improved".

I guess they figure if you're maniacal enough to want every note from this run, then you'll go for the USB stick.

Nice!

And even though it's somewhat surprising because I thought they'd model it after the recent KC and UK sets, I can see how it makes more financial sense to do it this way...

I wanted the cds too. I don't stick or rip so I'll just have to go with the 3cd set.

I think it's fantastic we're getting 6 complete shows and in 24-bit no less. A first for Frank! Who needs the CDs? I guess the same could be said, "Who needs a costume?"...and you'd have point there as I certainly don't. Would you be more pleased if it was download only? Not sure what the Costume Box is going for but I think it's safe to say you're getting 6 full shows at under $20 a piece. This is more than fair even as a download only with nothing to fetishize.

This is an exciting development in Zappa-land. I'm pleased.

Wish the 6 show release had a CD option. If the only way to get them is on the USB stick, then I'll break down and get it. It's one way to make the hardcore collectors buy both options.

One thing I miss about GZ is her chiming in on the "frost on the pumpkins" right about now for an upcoming release.

I'm not an i-podist, but as a pseudo completionist I did the birthday bundle(s) and other Zappa downloads thing "if you can't beat 'em join 'em".....

I upgraded the car audio system a few Months ago, it has a usb plug, which led to my FZ official releases being transferred to a couple of usb sticks. road trip nirvana, not having to choose which box of cd's to take on a ride along. Now almost my entire cd collection resides on a bunch of usb's in the car. I'll definitely be getting the cd's and the stick/costume combo.

It'll be interesting to see how Universal Music will continue the Zappa quirkiness in their marketing.....I miss Gail's frost on the pumpkin etc, but not the delays.

Yeah.
Well.
I was talking about the music.
You know, the only thing that matters. But whatever.

They, for sure, at least continue the tradition of obscurantism with their dropper information. :x

I'll easily take a USB over bunches of CDs. (But that's personal preference.)

Rumor on the street is that the usb contains an easter egg that allows you turn Patrick O'Hearns bass up "as loud as you fucking want" in the mix. The fidelity of his bass will also improve if you listen to the usb while wearing the costume mask.

Frank Zappa/Halloween 77 [Special Edition] ....Memory Device + Costume Box Set $87.99
Frank Zappa/Halloween 77 ....triple CD $29.99

Halloween was Frank Zappa's favorite holiday and by 1977 his Halloween shows were legendary. Recorded live at The Palladium in NYC, Zappa performed six shows 28-31 October. Four shows were filmed & resulted in Zappa's movie "Baby Snakes." The Halloween 77 3CD version includes the Halloween night show in its entirety, mixed in 2016 from original vault masters, plus select tracks from the other five shows. The Halloween 77 box includes all six shows in their entirety, mixed in 2016 from original vault masters, on USB stick in 24-bit WAV audio with a 32-page digital booklet, Zappa Halloween mask & costume. The shows rock hard and feature unreleased performances & arrangements.

I guess one bright side of the 6 show USB stick box will be that costs will be lower than a 14 CD box would. The 3 CD set of the one show is almost half of the cost of the 6 show deal.

The USB stick has the shows in Hi-Def Audio. Ripping them to CD's will result in a loss of quality, just like taping them onto cassettes would.

I'm all in for this and whatever else they want to release in lossless audio. A complete run of Yellow Shark concerts in this format would be most welcome!

eah...this is starting to piss me off. I'm not sure why I'm so eager to preorder this.

I'm starting to wish Adrian had kept his big mouth shut.
